Kyle Horton
Kyle Horton is an Associate Professor in the Department of Forestry and Natural Resources at Purdue University and leads the Purdue Aeroecology Lab. His research explores when and where birds migrate, how artificial light affects their movements, and how ecological forecasts can help protect migratory birds across the United States.
He earned his M.S. in Wildlife Ecology from the University of Delaware and his Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Oklahoma, and was a Rose Postdoctoral Fellow at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
Kyle Horton has worked with the BirdCast program since 2015. Alongside Benjamin Van Doren, he helped develop and launch the first nationwide bird migration forecasts for the United States in 2019, followed by BirdCast’s Lights Out warning tools.
