Dylan M. Osterhaus

Dylan Osterhaus is an avian ecologist whose research focuses on the conservation of migratory birds at both local and landscape scales. In his work, Dylan examines how migratory species are influenced by anthropogenic activities and environmental change. Dylan uses a variety of data resources, including weather radar, nocturnal flight call monitoring, bird banding, and eBird, to better understand how migrants are impacted by these threats and stressors. Through his work, Dylan aims to inform improved conservation strategies that protect migrants and mitigate negative effects. In his current position at Purdue University, Dylan is working to improve our understanding of the tools and methods we have available to study nocturnal migration and is evaluating strategies to better protect migratory birds from artificial light at night, with the goal of refining conservation practices and enhancing mitigation efforts.
