Hermione currently works on the BirdFlow project, which models migratory bird movements at population scales throughout their annual cycle. By intergrtaing these predictive movement models with radar data, she is working on developing BirdCast species-specific migration alerts to optimize targeted conservation actions. For example, action nights could be identified for collision-vulnerable species relevant to lights-out actions and large-bodied species important for aviation safety.

She also works on understanding the migration connectivity of birds, and how the strength of those connections relates to species’ population changes over time. This will help us understand how impacts (e.g., climate change, habitat loss) on one part of their annual cycle can cascade into the entire population.
