Andrew Farnsworth
Andrew Farnsworth began birding at age 5 and quickly developed a passion for bird migration that broadly defined his career. He studies migration patterns and behaviors directly with his own eyes and ears, but also indirectly with advancing remote sensing technologies like radar and acoustic monitoring.
Andrew has been involved with BirdCast since 1999, developing the first migration models with Dr. Sidney A. Gauthreaux in the Clemson University Radar Ornithology Lab and acting as lead scientist for much of the period between 2011-2023.
Increasingly, though he continues to do research, he is engaged in outreach and media campaigns to educate the general public about the wonders of bird migration and to promote bird conservation informed by the BirdCast science.
