August 21, 2020Tropical Activity on the HorizonTeam BirdCast like many other groups is watching the progress of three tropical systems that may make landfall in the US next week. Stay tuned for updates in the coming days!
October 16, 2015Traffic Report: Northeastern US, 8-14 October 2015The following “traffic report” describes northeast US nocturnal bird migration traffic rates, as calculated from a completely automated pipeline of algorithms. The images you see in Traffic Reports present the migration traffic rate (MTR), direction of bird movement, and speed of…
November 14, 2015Traffic Report: Northeastern US, 6-13 NovemberWelcome to our latest installment of the traffic report describing northeast US nocturnal bird migration traffic rates, as calculated from a completely automated pipeline of algorithms. The images you see in Traffic Reports present the migration traffic rate (MTR), direction of…
September 25, 2015Traffic Report: Northeastern US, 3-23 September 2015Team BirdCast is excited to debut daily reports of migration traffic rates in the northeast United States. Each night, from local sunset to local sunrise in the Eastern time zone, a BirdCast server downloads radar data from 16 stations in the northeastern US….
September 29, 2015Traffic Report: Northeastern US, 23-29 September 2015Once again, Team BirdCast is excited to bring you reports of migration traffic rates in the northeast United States, calculated from a completely automated pipeline of algorithms. The images you see in Traffic Reports present the migration traffic rate (MTR), direction of…
October 30, 2015Traffic Report: Northeastern US, 23-29 OctoberMigration events over the last week varied substantially in size. Last Friday night (23 October) saw a particularly large movement (see below to watch), followed by no (or extremely small) movements on the following night. Successive nights saw decreasing migration traffic rates; remember, a major low pressure system moved through the region with lots of precipitation.
October 9, 2015Traffic Report: Northeastern US, 1-7 October 2015Migration events over the last week were respectable in size, but we did not see the widespread, monster movements that often grace this time of season. For example, in our paper characterizing nocturnal movements in the northeastern US, the largest movements we reported occurred during the first week of October. Remember, migration traffic rate is defined as the number of birds from 0-3,000 meters above radar stations moving hourly over a 1 km line drawn on the ground.
September 1, 2017Traffic Report, Northeastern US: late August – early SeptemberWelcome to our first fall 2017 installment of the traffic report describing northeast US nocturnal bird migration traffic rates, as calculated from a completely automated pipeline of algorithms. The images you see in Traffic Reports present the migration traffic rate (MTR),…
August 31, 2016Traffic Report, Northeastern US: 23-30 August 2016Welcome to this installment of BirdCast Traffic Reports, posts describing northeastern US nocturnal bird migration traffic rates, as calculated from a completely automated pipeline of algorithms. The images you see in Traffic Reports present the migration traffic rate (MTR), direction…
May 3, 2016Traffic Report, Northeastern US: 21-28 April 2016Welcome to this installment of BirdCast Traffic Reports, posts describing northeastern US nocturnal bird migration traffic rates, as calculated from a completely automated pipeline of algorithms.
